Do You Have Idols of the Heart?

Do yo have idols of the heart?

Psychopathology and idolatry are often closely linked.

In today’s post, I borrow from DR. PETER TANCHI who TOUCHES ON IDOLATRY AND GOD’s DISCIPLINE

Scripture clearly describes idolatry as sin detested and punished by God.

Idolatry is abandoning the ways of God for another aim.

Money. People. Possessions. Work. Position.

People, like family or friends, can be idols. That includes “Me!”

“The most subtle idolatry that’s hard to detect is ‘idolatry of self,’ “Tanchi says. That’s this “Me!” Generation!

He reads Judges 7:2:
And the Lord said to Gideon, “The people who are with you are too many for Me to hand Midian over to them, otherwise Israel would become boastful, saying ‘My own power has saved me.’ “

Pride
Boasting.
Self-will.
Self-sufficiency.
Self-worship.
Narcissism (psychologists’ clinical term)

ARE YOU ON GOD’S SIDE?
OR, YOUR LIFE IS OPPOSED TO HIM?

Do not wait for disaster to happen in your life and family before you pray and obey God.

God loves you so much that He will not allow your sin or idolatry without consequences and His discipline.

Dr. D.M.Lloyd Jones:
“An idol is anything in our lives that occupies the place that should be occupied by God alone.”

Bill Gothard:
“Idolatry is trusting people, possessions, or positions to do for me what only God can do.”

do you have idols of the heart?

If you are sinning or your heart has “idols” today, ask yourself:

  1. Is God really my Father?
  2. Do I really belong to His family?

Leviticus 19:4
“Do not turn to idols or make metal gods for yourselves. I am the LORD your God.”

1 Corinthians 10:14
“Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry.”

Colossians 3:5
“Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.”

Jonah 2:8
“Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God’s love for them.”

Hebrews 12:7-10
“Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father? If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all. Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live! They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness.”
