Think Subida in your life.
When I was a teenager, a yoga teacher who happened to be a celebrity singer, asked me: “You have a beautiful name! Do you know what it means?”
In Spanish, the word “Subida” means ascent or the act of climbing or going up in the English translation.
The celebrity singer-yogi smilingly told me later that she thinks of me as an angel rising up!
To rise up for me is to look skyward — to think about the things of Heaven.
“Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.” (Colossians 3:2-4)
All our life, we’ve been conditioned to focus on externals, this earth. But this earth – everything external – is passing away. And our own days of biological existence are numbered.
When these truths are applied to the stretch of the brief human life that lay ahead of us – inevitable changes, seasons, losses, growing older, probable sickness, death, and life beyond- we are then left with absolutely nothing.
As the apostle Paul aptly put it to Timothy, “For we brought nothing into the world, so we cannot carry anything out of it.” (1 Timothy 6:7)
While we have only ever known life on earth, it is not our home. Our life on earth is similar to a hiking/camping trip or tourist travel. We’re all just passing through.
“As a man came from his mother’s womb, so he will depart again, naked as he arrived. He takes nothing for his labor to carry in his hands.” (Ecclesiastes 5:15)
To experience real, everlasting life, you’ve to rise and look up to Christ and the things of Heaven where life never ends.
HEAVEN is the Reality. Earth is only reality.
So the choice where to set your mind on is simple: Heaven or earth.
