Choose To Save Your Self

Choose to save your self.

When I was a boy, I was scared. Lonely. Adrift. Felt orphaned, cut off. Unprotected.

A core of anger emerged. My rationality stripped away. I was unprepared for its emergence. In family, school, relationships.

One time, I almost burned our family house. Bottles of gasoline. Lighter. And my lost, loveless soul and tears.

Many years passed. Then came my transforming therapy hour. One joy scatters hundreds of my griefs.

I can’t believe I was that person when I was a boy.

Life is a constant process of remaking our selves. It’s always an evolution. A progression.

But … only when we choose to save our selves.

Noted American author and counselor Stephen Arterburn, founder of New Life Radio TV, wrote the bestselling book “Healing Is A Choice.”

He writes,

“At one point or another, every human being needs healing. It is a rare person who marches through life without being ill … Medical treatment speeds our healing … Medicine cannot benefit unless we are willing to take it. The doctor can only prescribe the medicines we need. It is our choice to take them and experience the healing that results. In fact, every illness provides a number of choices for people … Every illness provides us with choices. In the context of healing, the greatest choice is to pursue healing!”

Every time, I get saddened by individuals I see who are so depressed and suicidal. Their lives have become unmanageable and out of control.

Yet they refuse treatment. They run away from a choice that will make them heal and get well.

Choose to save your self. Choose life.

“I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse: therefore choose life.” (Deuteronomy 30:19)
