Healing from Death

Healing from death. It’s deeply an ever-present cry in the human heart.

On facing death, noted psychotherapist and author, Dr. Irvin Yalom, writes,

“The physicality of death destroys us, but the idea of death saves us.”

“I can’t take it anymore!” says a well known local actress on the impending death of a sick friend.

The following remarks she made in the media seems to give the impression of overreaction to the idea of possible death.

Admittedly, it’s human to get disturbed by the idea or reality of death.

It begs for resolution

And for many, the resolution may come through denial, pessimism, or overreactions to loss.

Here are the other ways people face death, according to therapist Dr. Dan Neuharth:

* worry about it
* ignore or deny it
* feel peace in the knowledge
* put off thinking about it until I’m older
* find a way to put this insight to use
* turn it over to God
* all of the above
* none of the above

Dr. Neuharth further writes on the idea of facing and healing from death,

“A paradox about death and loss is that accepting the inevitability of loss can bring freedom … After a lifetime of resisting the fact of your mortality, it can be liberating to embrace it. Terminally ill people who accept their impending death – who choose it as their reality – often find lightness, forgiveness, and peace. Having nothing left to lose doesn’t make you desperate – it frees you. Attachment makes you desperate.”

Over 2000 years ago, Someone gives  the resolution that offers ultimate healing from death to all of humanity:

“I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies; and whosoever lives and believes in Me will never die,” Jesus promised.
