Do You Have GAD?

Do you have GAD?

GAD stands for generalized anxiety disorder. It differs from normal, short-lived worry.

A person with GAD does not experience the world in an ordinary way.

A mother and daughter visited a Covid swab facility. It’s same event yet different reactions.

The mother conceptualized and experienced it as terrifying, even catastrophic. The daughter viewed it only with mild apprehension.

One symptom of GAD is unstoppable worry that can not be managed by reasoning or will power. It’s also not based on any realistic cause.

The worry and anxiety may also be accompanied by other symptoms such as:

• edginess

• frequent fatigue

• trouble concentrating

• irritability

• tense muscles

• sleep disturbances

• heart palpitations

• dizziness

• frequent urination

• headaches

• difficulty swallowing

• shakiness

• aches and pains

• withdrawal

• insomnia

• easy startle response

GAD is pretty challenging. For families. For doctors. Since the vague, chronic symptoms cannot be found to have any medical basis.

“Ok I see the numbers, I’m normal but I just can’t believe it,” says an elderly father to his son after a clean Bill of health was released regarding his medical tests.

Daily, he’s on edge and fretful about a number of matters all at the same time. He can’t relax at all.

The elderly father exhibited GAD symptoms. He’s having difficulty keeping them in check so he had to see a psychotherapist.

It may all be in his mind. But it feels real to him. He had to deal with his isolation, loneliness, and demoralization with the therapist.

GAD is a common anxiety disorder that involves constant and chronic worrying, nervousness, and tension. Unlike a phobia, where your fear is connected to a specific thing or situation, the anxiety of GAD is diffused—a general feeling of dread or unease that colors your whole life.” – HelpGuide.org
