Healing Your Anxiety Disorder

Healing your anxiety disorder is external and internal. Both is required.

External involves authoring your days.

That’s the practical considerations, such as your food and exercise, your family or relationships, recreation, and work productivity.

Internal involves facing your inner fears and wounds. Therapists call it your “shadows” or inner demons.

That’s the psychological, emotional, and spiritual, which may be comprised of psychotherapy and spiritual disciplines.

Nora, a long time OFW, is a case in point.

“What’s this doc, my gerd and blood pressure always shoots up whenever I feel it, which makes me all the more anxious and my condition worse,” she asked during our FB messenger session last night.

Nora is active in church. She goes to regular Bible studies and prayer fellowships.

Her medical condition is well managed by doctors and prescriptive medicines.
Yet Nora still finds herself “unmanageable,” especially with her frequent daily anxiety attacks.

It’s obvious that Nora’s attempts to heal her anxiety disorder are active, but only in a superficial way.

Plato once said, “All diseases of the body proceed from the mind or soul.”

This principle is one with specific relevance in the healing of your anxiety disorder if you’re going through it,

Mind. Soul. Take note of these two main sources.

Specialists in the field of psychosomatic medicine confirm this.
They claim that from 50% to 80% of all physical illnesses originate in our emotions, such as fears, anger, depression etc

The fact is, all emotions have an influence on our health, either in a creative or destructive manner.

Mind-induced anxiety disorders, even those with spiritual roots, do develop into organic illnesses in time.

Thousands of years ago, the apostle Paul writes to the Christians at Philippi,
“Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6,7)

That’s the soul part. To heal your anxiety disorder. God’s healing comes only as you surrender to Him all your anxieties and fears.

“A pure heart is one that is unencumbered, unworried, uncommitted, and which does not want its own way about anything, but which, rather is submerged in the loving will of God … There can be no restlessness except it comes from self-will.”— Meister Eckhart
