Remember to accept your self after a mistake.
Self-Talk Script 1: Acceptance and Understanding
“Okay, I made a mistake. I lied. I felt frustrated, and my reaction may have been too extreme. It’s important for me to remember that everyone can make mistakes. Just like she was late, I also made a mistake in handling the situation. My feelings of guilt are a sign that I recognize my mistake, and that’s a good thing. It means I have the capacity to grow and learn from this.”
Self-Talk Script 2: Self-Compassion and Forgiveness
“I need to be kind to myself now. I made a decision in the heat of the moment, and it is not reflective of who I am as a professional or a person. I am allowed to make mistakes, as long as I learn from them and make amends where necessary. I will take this guilt I’m feeling as an opportunity to improve, not as a punishment.”
Self-Talk Script 3: Taking Action
“I’m feeling guilty because I acted in a way that doesn’t align with my values. Instead of wallowing in guilt, I can take action. I can apologize to the client and explain the situation honestly. If she accepts my apology, great. If not, I need to remember that I can’t control other people’s reactions, only my own actions. I also need to think about ways to prevent this from happening in the future, like setting clear expectations about appointment times, or finding a more constructive way to deal with my frustration.”
Self-Talk Script 4: Moving Forward
“Today, I learned an important lesson about honesty and professionalism. I made a mistake, but I am not defined by this single event. I am a good person who had a bad moment. From now on, I will strive to handle similar situations better and to remain truthful in my communications. This incident doesn’t mark the end of my journey, but it’s a step towards becoming a better professional and a better person.”
